Dressing up Baby?
Why do people dress up their babies anyway? Aside from my weakest moments when I woefully wander a baby store alone, I purposefully avoid the world of oohing and aahing over ridiculous baby things.
This morning as I receive my daily email from Hautelook, an online designer sale site, I stumble across a sale for all things baby.
Come on…it’s before 8am!
I’m not quick enough to stop myself before I open the attachment and start scrolling. Baby blankets, baby bath towels and alas…a baby hat with rabbit ears. Rabbit ears? Really? I begin to ooh and aah before I notice that this hat comes with a stuffed carrot. What? A stuffed carrot? Is this Halloween?!
Have we become a society where it is acceptable to dress up babies year-round? Why must we do this? So that we can embarrass our children one day when they are in their teens and begin dating?
More so…why are these bunny ears so damn cute?! I stop myself before I buy them, as I am convinced that I have already jinxed myself, last year before getting pregnant, by purchasing maternity jeans from an online sale similar to this one.
I take time to ponder the pros and cons of dressing up my future child. Maybe this potential child will only be dressed up on holidays. How about a turkey for Thanksgiving, a pumpkin for Halloween? The bunny ears and matching carrot work with this idea, right?
I check the website to see if the price sparks an urge to buy or resist. But, due to the fact that other women have been nabbed by this email before a proper cup of coffee, the rabbit ears have sold out.
I narrowly escape the bunny ear purchase this time. Next time, I may not be so lucky.

I have a son.. and I had a great time dressing him up for everything his first year. I think it’s just something all first mom’s too. yes he even had ears for Easter! At 2 1/2 I made him pose as cupid for Valentine pictures…LOL he is going to kill me.
I wish you the best of luck in finding out how much fun it can be to dress up a little one.
